Obama and Edwards are lovely. Their not Howard Dean, but they certainly have my support... if they win the nomination. (Right now, I'm supporting Ron Paul. The longer he is in the race the worse for the GOP.)
My topic today is HiIlary.
There are well-worn discussions of her experience, the role of Bill, and her like-ability/win-ability that I will not discuss here. Alternatively, I'd like to discuss the absurdity of one criticism frequently offered by her critics... including fellow Democrats.
Hillary Clinton is more of the same in Washington. More of the same old partisan, inside-the-beltway, lobbyist orgy, that it has been since who-knows-when.
This is asinine.
It absolutely does overplay (in a sadly juvenile way) the effect of an individual - even the President - can have on a whole political culture. The victor will still have to work with the same Congress, interest groups, and businesses.
But this is not my point...
My point is that with Hillary, we would have the 1st FEMALE U.S. President.
That is not simpatico with the establishment... plain and simple.
Obama is a man of color and is also certainly an anti-establishment candidate, but they key here is "also."
You see, I'm excited for the millions of Americans who would face the dilemma.
The dilemma that will arise between their reason dictating a Hillary vote, versus the prejudice that tells them a woman can't be President.
Hillary is most certainly not an establishment candidate.
Her victory, just like an Obama win, would be a profound symbol for the U.S., the world, and for the history books.
